Railroad nails dated

WebDate nails were not just used by American railroads. I've got one from Guatemala that is dated "71". I presume that is 1971. But how rotted the tie was it could have been 1871. :) (Guatemala didn't have a railroad in 1871 where I found this nail). The reason the tie was so rotted was because Guatemala doesn't or didn't use any wood preservative. http://therustybunch.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=12607
